My iPhone Is Better Than Your DSLR!

You’ve seen photo apps and comparisons in the past, but I am fully convinced that I can take better photos with my iPhone than just about anyone with a DSLR. I know that’s a bold statement, but I just got a new toy/attachment for my iPhone that is absolutely amazing for photography and video.
I’m talking about the OWLE Bubo by ALM.
This thing takes amazing wide angle photos, which is especially important for the small rooms we have to work with in real estate. See the difference between non-wide angle and wide angle here:
While the wide angle is cool, what most people don’t realize, is the wide angle lens lets in a significantly greater amount of light.
Here’s where it gets interesting…While the above photo is “ok”, using a simple app called Camera+ for only $.99, we’re able to easily edit our photos right on the iPhone and give them a much need enhancement!
Check out the difference here:
So agents, there is no excuse for terrible pictures! You’re only hurting yourself! I’m sure if you’re a professional photographer, you can pick apart my photos and why they suck, but take a look at my original photo above, to the end result…huge difference!
Spend some money and get an OWLE Bubo here: http://www.cameta.com/ALM-OWLE-Bubo-Stabilizer-Mount-with-Video-Lens-Mic-for-iPhone-4-4S-Black-62911.cfm

I actually spent an extra $20 for the LED light kit (included in the above link), which is great for Video!
If that’s not in your budget, at least get the Camera+ app above for $.99!
I would also strongly encourage you to get a tripod mount (ONLY if you’re not getting the OWLE) like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Studio-Neat-Glif-iPhone-4S/dp/B0052G679K
As well as a monopod or tripod…I use this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/755445-REG/Manfrotto_MMC3_02_MMC3_02_Compact_Monopod_Gray_.html
Kindle Fire For Real Estate Review
0Final Thoughts: If you’re a real estate agent looking for a cheap tablet to browse through listings on the go and answer a few emails, this is the tablet for you. If you’re looking to use a tablet for your listing presentations, save up for an iPad.
How To Create A Professional Property Video in Less Than 10 Minutes
0I found that in less than ten minutes, I was able to create a professional looking video for my Beavercreek RE/MAX Office using nothing but my iPhone. Here is the example. Read below to see how I did it.
So using an iPhone 4s (I promise I’m not trying to leave you android fans out!), I downloaded an app called iMovie. If you’re at all familiar with Apple product, you’ve surely stumbled upon this program at one time or another. While the desktop version is fantastic, and I’ve began using it almost exclusively the mobile app is icing on the cake! I downloaded the iPad version about 8 months ago, but found I didn’t have much use for it because I was using an android phone, and there was really no good way for me to get my video from one device to the other. Now that I have an iPhone, I rejoice in the ability and quantity of apps to do things like this:
Sign Real Estate Contracts w/Your iPad
0I know I’ve demoed a few signature apps in the past, but they keep getting better! Check out the latest for the iPad, EasySign:
Save Up To $700 On Your New iPad 2!
0
So if you’re like me, you’re about to go wait in line for the new iPad 2 (maybe you’re already in line)! But rather than buy the 3g model, save yourself $130 bucks and a monthly fee of $20-$50, by using your iPhone or Android as a WiFi hotspot. This will allow you to connect your brand new iPad to your phone’s internet connection If you’re not already doing using your phone as a WiFi hotspot, you can do this on the iPhone by “Jailbreaking” it, or “Rooting” your Android phone. This isn’t the easiest thing to do, but it also it’s as hard as it sounds.
If you’re on the iPhone, you can find instructions HERE
If you’re on an Android, you can find instructions HERE (find and select your phone model and click Android Development)
There is a great deal of reading involved, but if you’re looking to save $200-700/year it’s certainly worth the couple hours it may take you.
Make sure you carry your phone charger, or buy an extended battery though, as this will burn through your battery pretty quick!
My disclaimer: I’ve done this to all 4 of my Android phones and 3 iPhones without major issue. If you don’t know what you’re doing, DO NOT FLASH A CUSTOM ROM! This can brick your device and void your warranty. If you have an older device, I would recommend trying your skills on that first!
The iPad2 Is Coming (Super Soon!)
0
If you haven’t already heard, the next generation iPad aka the iPad 2 was just announced today and looks to be everything the first generation was not.
It’s coming out much sooner than expected, with a March 11th ship and in store date. Hopefully, like the first generation, it won’t be limited to Apple stores, but will show up at Best Buy and others on the same day.
As expected it has a faster processor, which most users won’t notice immediately, but will if you do any sort of multitasking (or at least what Apple considers multitasking).
The new iPad will be running an upgraded iOS 4.3, which only has a few upgrades, not worth mentioning.
Some of the cooler features make it slimmer by 33%, and quite a bit lighter. I have to admit, while laying on the couch, the old one did get a bit heavy after 20 minutes or so of holding it in the air, so consider this one a plus. It will also feature a larger more powerful speaker so you can blow the socks off your clients while giving them a listing presentation!
As seen in the photo on the right, the new iPad has a screen cover. It will be magnetic clamped to the iPad and bring your iPad out of sleep when opened, and back to sleep when closed. I have to admit, I like this feature. I wouldn’t necessarily choose pink, but I have an original iPad with an Apple case, and while it does a good job of protecting the tablet and it’s super low profile, it loses some of cool or wow factor with the case on. I’m hoping this maintains that.
After reading above, you may be thinking: “So not much has changed, why should I buy one?” Because this one has cameras! This was the one major feature lacking in the first generation model, and with video being the biggest hype in real estate and elsewhere, the newest model delivers!
The iPad 2 features a front facing camera for video chat like Skype, and the rear camera takes 720P HD video. I don’t envision many real estate agents using this for much photography, but it could be useful for still video recording, as the new iPad will have the ability to download iMovie for the iPad, Apple’s fantastic video editor.
So don’t wait, go get in line at your nearest retailer…probably now
Video is the future of real estate, and the future is now! This “magical” little device will make it that much easier to deliver mind blowing presentations and communicate via video with clients. I envision our industry changing to accommodate showing buyers homes while they sit on their living room couch, and then doing a walk-thru of their top three choices.
iPhone 4 and iPad…should you wait? YES!
0I’ve had a lot of real estate agents ask me if they should buy an iPad…the answer is yes!
But wait a month or two, the new one will be out in April! It’s going to be faster, lighter, all around better and feature a front facing camera for the ever important and industry future, video chat.
The iPad has been crucial for our recruiting, training, and as a showcase of our technical abilities. In other words, it still has the “WOW” factor for agents and potential home buyers and sellers alike. While it’s not a substitute for your everyday laptop, you shouldn’t ever lose a listing presentation with one of these in your arsenal! $500 well spent!
As for the new Verizon iPhone…
It’s not really new, it primarily the same as the AT&T, but with much better service (insert caveat here). My business partner Scott joined the masses and made the iPhone carrier switch, and I must say his quality of service has vastly improved! Where he previously dropped the same call 3-4 times during one conversation, he now has crystal clear conversations.
Now, the reasons you SHOULD NOT buy the Verizon iPhone:
- You cannot talk and check your email or surf the web at the same time
- Even though it is the iPhone 4, it is not 4G LTE (this is probably the biggest drawback IMO. LTE is Verizon’s new “really fast” network…think faster than your home internet, and their 3g is “really slow”. I’m a T-Mobile Android user, but I’ve performed speedtest on just about every network, and Verizon 3G is usually at the bottom.
- The new iPhone is just around the corner! While the iPhone 4 is awesome, the new one will most likely be out this summer and is rumored to be 4G, and have an integrated payment system in it called NFC (Near Field Communication) which basically will let you use it as a credit card at most stores (in the future). I’m sure it will have some other fancy upgrades…maybe (fingers crossed) 1080P HD video recording
So in summary, be patient! I know if you’re a tech and gadget junkie like me it’s nearly impossible, but great things are around the corner and it’s hard to justify buying a nearly year old product when things are changing so quickly!
Drop Minute Plans On Your Cell Phone Bill? -Maybe Ditch Them Completely!
0Well I have completely exhausted myself trying to find a FREE VOIP (Voice Over IP) solution for an Android phone. There are a ton of tutorials out there showing how to use SIPDROID or other very labor and knowledge intensive of SIP and VOIP.
If the paragraph above read as if I was speaking in another language it’s because it almost is it’s own.
Breakdown: I wanted an app for my phone that would allow me to make FREE calls and texts over WiFi and 3g. Instead of using minutes (which I pay a ton for unlimited), I wanted to use my unlimited data plan to make calls and texts…sounds easy enough right?

Well, I have been using Toktumi as an awesome provider for my toll free 888 number ($15/mo. unlimited), and I knew they had an iPhone app, but I didn’t want to use my iPad as a phone (yet). Well now it’s coming to Android!!!
For only $9.99/month, I’ll be able to call and text to my heart’s content! Not only that, but it fully integrates with my Google Voice Number! If you’re in real estate, you definitely need a Google Voice Number!

Google Voice allows me to multi conference, set hours of availability, call screening, custom group messages, and ring multiple phones at once so I can answer it anywhere. Not only are those features amazing, but I can now make calls directly from my email to in phone in the US, completely FREE!!!
I’ve been saying this for a few years now, but plans based on minutes will be going away in the future. With the rise of Free Wifi and most carriers switching to 4g (mostly because of video chat), I believe you’ll soon (over the next few years) be on a tiered data plan.
In the meantime, get ahead of the game, and grab yourself a Line2 Account!
Google Docs – Mobile!!!
0Many real estate agents have started adapting to the use of mobile or virtual documents. With the use of the iPad and other tablet devices being released, this is only going to become the norm. Google announced this morning that all Google Docs are going to be fully editable on mobile devices. This means your Android or iOS 3.x device will be able to change those contracts on the fly and hopefully accept signatures in the near future
