For the inaugural RealEstateTechno gadget post, I found it fitting to talk about the upcoming tablet wars. Let me preface that by saying I’m a huge Google Fanboy, and have ditched 3 iPhones in favor of Android phones. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S (T-mobile Vibrant -rooted and modded with a front facing camera), but I also tote around my beloved iPad.

The iPad: As I mentioned I’ve been toting around an iPad since launch and I absolutely love it. For me, it’s a day to day replacement for my laptop. There are certainly things I wish it could do, like: join webinars (fully), host webinars, video conference, and upload files to websites, but those are things that are easily handled on my desktop PC and not super necessary while on the go. The absolute strong suit of the iPad has been presentations. It’s a cake walk giving presentations that are easily created using Keynote. But showing the power in our (RE/MAX Victory) web marketing in real time on the internet takes that cake! Agents and potential clients are blown away by the “Magical device” and instantly say, “I want one!”

Galaxy Tab: While this is the first real Android Tab arriving, I begrudgingly admit this is also the first real iPad competitor…as I said I’m a Google fanboy :) I love my Samsung Galaxy S phone. In fact, the best two phones I’ve ever owned have been Samsung. I believe that they translated this same attention to detail and quality to the Galaxy Tab. I love fact this has a front facing camera for conferencing, as I believe that will be the future of many real estate meetings. I also love the open source and lack of restriction that the Android platform provides. However, Google has come out and said Android 2.2 is not optimized for tablets. With this being said, one can only hope that The Galaxy Tab will get the Honeycomb update expected next year. One last complaint would be the size, while it may be perfect for jamming in your back pocket, I think the Galaxy Tab loses some of the “WOW!” factor with the smaller screen and more closely resembles a phone. I’d also like to see the price go down significantly! :)

In closing, I guess my advise would be to wait until after Christmas for a tablet (I like having the newest and best and just wouldn’t be satisfied knowing something cooler is coming out). But, with Black Friday (my favorite holiday) just around the corner, make sure to look around for the deals!

Sure you can get a netbook for cheap, but you want to be on the cutting edge!
